For this week’s blog, we received a letter from someone who likes to complain about everything - Karen - where she shared her experiences in America’s National Parks and why she suggests saving yourself some time and skipping them altogether.
Dear Mr. President — (or whoever)
National Parks are “America’s best idea?” Try one of its worst. National parks are arguably the most overrated destination in the US, and here are just a few reasons why no one should waste their time visiting any of the 63 National Parks.
IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE: Who decided to put these parks way so far from everything? There aren’t even major airports near most of these parks. Get in a car and road trip for hours? No thanks.
NO CELL SERVICE: Speaking of the middle of nowhere, have you tried to get on Instagram in some of these parks? Cell service is basically zero. How am I supposed to impress my friends with my vacation if I can’t post about it on social media. Not that anyone would actually be impressed by these places.
CROWDS: Have you ever been to one of these parks on a holiday weekend or in the summer? The crowds are unbearable. Especially if you just want to see the most Instagrammable sights that are right off the main roads. It is hard to take a photo worthy of the ‘gram when there’s a bunch of tourists in the shot.
YOU MIGHT HAVE TO CAMP: You realize that camping is just sleeping outside, right? In a tent? On the ground? No thanks. I’d rather stay at the Four Seasons than sleep in the four seasons.
WAY TOO DARK AT NIGHT: Have you ever noticed that there are no street lamps in most of these parks? Sure you can see the stars and the moon and whatever, but it's kind of spooky and unnaturally dark out there.
So if you’re looking for a vacation destination super far away, where you might need to sleep outside and zero access to Instagram, the National Parks might be a good fit for you. As for me, I’m going to find an all-inclusive beach resort.
